Singapore Warns of Refrigeration Cyber Risks After European Cold Chain Attacks

Singapore’s Cyber Security Agency has urged businesses that rely on refrigeration management systems, including logistics and healthcare operators, to strengthen their cyber defences after large-scale cyberattacks targeted supermarket and cold chain refrigeration systems in several European countries.

The warning highlights a risk associated with connected operational technology: a cyberattack on refrigeration controls could affect the temperatures needed to preserve sensitive goods. For food suppliers and logistics operators, temperature deviations could lead to spoilage; in healthcare, a failure affecting refrigerated blood storage could disrupt access to safely stored supplies.

The potential consequences depend on which systems are affected and how quickly safe temperatures can be restored. For operators, the incident draws attention to the connection between network security and the continuity of temperature-controlled storage and transport.
