The United States has announced that it will remove an additional 50% tariff on certain Canadian refrigeration and freezing equipment effective October 30, 2026. The change adjusts the Section 338 tariff measures and could reduce equipment costs for US agricultural and cold-chain businesses.
Removing the additional tariff reduces one component of the cost of importing covered equipment. The effect on an individual purchase will depend on whether the equipment qualifies for the change and how the tariff reduction is reflected in the price paid by the buyer.
For Canadian suppliers, the adjustment could improve the price competitiveness of affected equipment in the US market. Whether it changes purchasing decisions or broader North American trade patterns will depend on the products covered and how suppliers and buyers respond.
